Bess Dulany to Direct Halstead’s Three Brooklyn Offices; Barry Dulany Steps Down

By Linda Collins

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Halstead Property, which several years ago acquired the two Brooklyn offices of William S. Ross Real Estate during a wave of Manhattan realty firms coming to Brooklyn, has now acquired Harbor View Realty, also a longtime Brooklyn Heights firm.

Bess Dulany, daughter of Harbor View founders Barry and the late Harris Dulany, will serve as director of sales for Brooklyn, and will be responsible for the management and day-to-day operations of the two existing Halstead offices — at 162 Court St. in Cobble Hill and 150 Montague St. in Brooklyn Heights — as well as the new one, the former Harbor View office at 179 Atlantic Ave.

“It was the natural course of things,” Dulany explained. “Things were changing, times were changing, we needed the full support and the marketing that Halstead could offer us.

“They’re really giving us a lot of support and a lot of autonomy, too. We’re very happy about it.” Dulany, who joined her parents’ 30-year-old firm to do residential sales about five years ago, has been managing the Harbor View office for the past year. Her mother, Barry, who was the manager, has not retired, however, “She is just stepping down from the responsibilities of the day-to-day operation.” Dulany said that they chose Halstead to partner with because it had a family feel, is a privately-owned firm and also one of the first in the city to bring real estate sales out of office buildings and into boutique retail storefronts.

“By joining together with Halstead Property, we are able to take our company in a new direction and truly provide our clients and customers with the tools and resources that are vital in today’s market,” said Dulany.

Before joining the family business, she was director of sales for @radical.media, a global advertising production and media company where she headed up a division of 20 commercial directors. In addition, she worked for 10 years in the music business in artist management for clients such as U2, Pat Metheny and Suzanne Vega.

Said Halstead Property President Diane Ramirez, “As Brooklyn continues to grow at a fast pace with new developments and a resurgence of neighborhoods, we identified a strong need to expand our Brooklyn operations. By adding the office of Harbor View Realty to the Halstead family, we are expanding our footprint into the neighborhoods where there is a high demand for the customer service and extensive resources that Halstead is well-known for in the industry.”

Halstead currently has more than 600 sales and rental agents in 11 retail storefront offices throughout Manhattan, Harlem, Brooklyn, Riverdale and the Hudson Valley.

The firm also has a very active, and growing, development marketing division.

William “Bill” Ross, who has been serving as executive director of sales for the Brooklyn offices since the merger, will now move up to that division, which the company has been expanding. It now has exclusive sales and marketing contracts for at least 65 new developments representing over 3,500 units in the tri-state area.
