Revealed: Block beautiful not immune to change, glass

East 19th Street between Third Avenue and Irving Place is known as "Block Beautiful" for its architecturally diverse collection of 19th and early 20th century houses and buildings. But as we've learned over the past few years, no pocket of Manhattan is immune from the building boom, or what's left of it. For months, curious onlookers have watched a tumor-like growth climb out of a three-story building at the corner of Third Avenue. This curious little project now has a name, Gramercy 19, and a teaser website. The studio, one- and two-bedroom units at 148 East 19th Street will be repped by Halstead, but the firm is not releasing any designs or details until the new year. Luckily for us, however, a small rendering appears on the building's StreetEasy page. Block Beautiful, trusty old friend: welcome to your future.
